Venetian Blinds - Timber vs PVC

Venetian blinds have the flexibility of controlling the amount of light you want let in just by tilting the slats. You can even adjust the angle the light can come into your room. Hence, you can prolong the lifespan of your blinds as you don’t pull them up or down often.

They have come a long way from the aluminium slats to the classy and sophisticated creatures we see today.

Today we will touch on the topic of what to consider when choosing between Timber or PVC material for Venetian blinds.

Timber Venetian Blinds

Pros:

They are eco-friendly as they are made from natural wood.

They are also slightly lighter than PVC ones.

Cons:

As they are natural wood, when under prolonged direct sunlight exposure, they will be subjected to fading and chipping more so than their PVC counterparts.

Depending on the living conditions of the homeowner, wood may also attract termites.

Wood can expand and contract with changes in moisture and sunlight.

PVC Venetian Blinds

Pros:

They are made to be faux wood so they look and feel similar to wood.

The synthetic material is able to withstand strong winds and rain more so than timber can.

PVC can block large % of UV more so than its timber counterparts.

They have more insulation properties than timber.

And! They cost less than timber ones. Surprise, surprise?

Cons:

Slightly heavier than timber but easily manageable with a better pulley system that does not cost much more.
